Anarkiddies. Great.

I agree that we have to hold Biden’s feet to the fire on a progressive agenda, but this is not the way.

I wonder if Biden gets it yet.

All the hypocritical talk of “unity” aside, could it be that he wants to lure the Dems into doing away with the filibuster? He’s pretty canny, so it seems like it wouldn’t be as ham-fisted a move as it first appears, but rather something with a subtler ulterior motive…

The filibuster should be done away with. This is McConnell saying “I don’t want you to have the ability to do anything”, and he should be ignored.

Holy crap, this woman was an absolute asshole to me once during a visit to Asheville (in pre-Trump times). I stepped into her shop having Actual Interests in things that she might be selling, and was politely looking around before popping my Actual Question. Before I had half a chance to take in her store, she accosted me for browsing and snapped, “If you’re just going to look, get out. This isn’t a museum!” I looked at her in absolute shock for a few seconds before just walking out. I don’t have a retail experience to compare it to, it was just… beyond the pale.

She’s pretty legendary at this point… Also, she’s the only person in America who is racist against the Irish… Against other people, too, of course, but don’t mention the Irish around that woman.

I’m tempted to go out of my way to try now.

I think plenty of people end up going in there just to wind her up… Make sure if you make it to Asheville and go for a visit that you FILM IT!

Also, if you do go to Asheville in the post-pandemic future, make sure you also visit the Pinball Museum (which is really a flat fee arcade, just with lots of pinball games and actually really cheap beer) and to the Moog factory for their tour, which is an amazing (you do have to email ahead to reserve a spot).

Well - there’s Mallory Archer.

Hmm. Do her genealogy & I’m sure you’ll find Irish in there.

Oh, probably, but she seems like she’s already done hers?

She acts like she’s literally pure Scottish…

Lady sees very clearly:

“ MacIntosh, understandably, felt threatened by the display. “This guy is in the middle of a government meeting brandishing a weapon,” MacIntosh told the Traverse City Record-Eagle. “Why would I not think they were trying to harm me?” The 74-year-old MacIntosh told AP that she plans to file a report with the Michigan State Police.

“I didn’t think he was going to shoot me, obviously, but I do think his whole point was to intimidate me and threaten me and anyone else who’s going to speak out … and see if he can stir up masses of people who are just looking for things to fight about,” MacIntosh told AP.”

After the pandemic, I’m tempted to join you; I’d love to see her head implode from meeting an ‘uppity’ Black woman who’s also mighty damn Irish.

If she is, then that means she’s inbred.

Reading over the various yelp reviews, it’s clear she’s also traditionally racist too… I’d love to see her reaction to you and your response to her! It would be fucking epic!

Probably… :grinning: Also, I love Tony Todd…

I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Asheville, but the location where the shop is located, on a street called Wall Street, is a popular spot with tourists (who she also hates), and it’s right down the street from the parking garage that many people use. The story is that the only reason she’s still in business is because her daughter outright owns the building where the store is housed, so she doesn’t have to worry about turning a profit. Presumably all the hate that’s keeping her alive will one day stop doing so, and maybe something else can go in there or maybe her daughter will take it over and will be less of a racist idiot.

The rest of Asheville is recommended, but it’s gotten far more expensive to stay downtown than it was even a decade ago. But there are lots of great restaurants, museums, book stores, historic spots, and lots of outdoors types things… and the Moog factory, of course!
