Well, it is sort of an anomaly, in that there was just the one program and then it stopped. On the other hand…
That’s not anomalous at all, collective decisions are literally how all big things get done. It only seems strange to him because the decision wasn’t to pour all our effort into serving at the direction of some idiot billionaire, the way we keep doing now.
But honestly, almost any hollywood film is going to focus on individuals and will streamline narratives for dramatic purposes. And all sorts of people (usually women and people of color) end up getting written out of history that way. But since everyone finds history lectures “boring” and books on history “boring” (unless they are about nazis, I guess), most people get their history this way (at least in America)… sad but true.
Exactly. And (seems all too obvious to say this) advances in technology occur at their own pace and are products of their time. Musk’s comment reminds me of the continuing cultural bias certain people have toward ancient civilizations. Massive structures and pyramids? Must be aliens!
In the 1960s space travel was such a new idea that people in power genuinely believed deeply stupid things like “The Russians are going to bomb us from the Moon if we don’t get there first”
Eventually it became common knowledge that That’s Not How It Works and the money dried up
No, the Nazis in charge of the US space missions were getting the technology from their Nazi buddies in the secret Nazi bases on the dark side of the moon.
Duh!
Oh and Elvis gave them a few tips before he went home.
