It threw me a bit because some of the islands exactly match their northern Azores cousins but there were too many. I also had no idea what the Cape Verde island look like.

Game wasn’t showing up for me, despite turning off the most likely problematic browser extensions. Turns out it was because I’d blocked the NYT cookies a while back and forgotten about it.

So, Quordle… what are people’s strategies for this one? I use three words with different letters as my first three guesses every time, which pretty much guarantees a minimum of 7 guesses, but still a high chance of failure. I feel like it’s an interesting puzzle for the information scientists, but I suspect a strategy to solve with a average of less than 8 would need some computation.

Luck does seem to be more of a factor in Quordle.
If im pretty confident i know a word ill moce on to try and uncover other letters in other quadrants before solving.

Yesterday almost got me for the same reason. Sometimes having 3-4 letters is worse because all you can do is cycle through the variations until you land on the right one. I had AxUSE out of the gate and it still took me five tries.

I’ve been poo-pooing “strategies” and “well-chosen first words” but I might try this same one again with new words and see if I would have gotten there sooner.

Interesting. On my phone (Firefox on Android) it didn’t redirect me, so I’m still at the powerlanguage url.
Does anyone know how it’s keeping statistics? I assume that the original site was just storing them in Local Storage. Looking now on my desktop browser (which does auto redirect to NYT) that’s correct, at least for the NYT implementation.
So how did it bring a local storage state over to the NYT domain? The browser should have prevented it from accessing any state saved from a different domain.
Hmmm, one possible solution: the redirect could have contained the statistics in the url, which the NYT site then saved to Local Storage.
But this would rely on people going to the powerlanguage url site first. It implies that if you have a previous history on powerlanguage, and then navigate directly to the new NYT url, your history won’t transfer over.
Anyone know if this is how it works? I would try navigating straight to the new NYT url on my phone (which is still a redirect virgin), but I’m scared of creating a new history on NYT, which would trump any history that later tries to transfer over…

And, indeed, many people are not seeing their stats transfer over
which makes me think that people are running into the exact issue I predicted – if the very first redirect doesn’t go off without a hitch, then you’re going to have problems.
The tweet suggests hacking the redirect url to make your stats better, but that’s silly if you’re on a computer, since if you’re going to go to such lengths it’s even easier just to modify the Local Storage directly
Just one game away from lucky 1000…
But for serious, it makes me a little worried about losing my stats on my phone, which is the way I play, and is harder to mess with.
