Let’s say there’s a vote for class president. Most of the student body chooses Joe Schmo, who is well liked. But Biff Tannen is big and tough and yells at the teachers so much that they overrule the vote and make him class president instead. The students aren’t happy, but according to the rules, the teachers get final say, so they can’t do anything about it.
Biff Tannen is, by the rules, class president. But that doesn’t change the fact that a lot more people actually chose Joe Schmo. And when folks start wondering how to beat Biff, the guy who they actually chose last time is probably a pretty good guy to ask for ideas.
