Please go see this magnificent film and give it a wider audience than it might otherwise pull.

If you think you have the movie clocked from the trailer, there’s an excellent chance you’re wrong.

Mark Rylance is extraordinary (duh!), but also the entire production is very well crafted.

If you’re in the mood for an over-the-top low-budget cartoonishly violent film, I recommend this…

It was very stupid, and very funny. But if you don’t like Evil Dead type cartoonish violence, best avoided.

So I watched Moonfall for some reason :person_shrugging:

It starts out aggressively stupid and still somehow gets stupider with each successive scene. If you think of it as satire it’s pretty amusing, but the constant Elon love was off-putting.

I suggest getting liquored up first.

Huh. I had no problem finding Moonlighting. Here’s “The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice,” one of my faves:

His statement was: “It’s a demanding movie. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the fucking audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story.”

Um… no. It’s not what I want (an nc-17 film about Marilyn Monroe)… I want a film that respects her as an artists and addresses the misogyny she had to deal with during her life. If it happens to be nc-17, then okay… but I’d like to stop treating her like a fucking object of men’s desire and start treating her like the person she was. Can we just be done with men making everything about their dicks? Please?

The original article seems a bit more nuanced, but it still comes off like it’s going to play up the sex and sexuality angle…

I’m skeptical.

“But my dick is literally the only way I can relate to other humans!? That’s normal right?”

That being said I appreciate knowing that the movie was made solely for people who like pretentious porn about exploited actresses. Hard pass.

From his comments, that sort of seems the case… I don’t know anything about the novel it’s based on, but it’s by Joyce Carol Oates?

Here’s a review…

From the review:

Oates should be ashamed of herself.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been a fan of Oates fwiw.

I feel like every time I’ve read as her work it’s been for a class and I’ve been like “well that’s done now.”

I don’t think I’ve ever read her stuff, honestly…

I remember having hopes for this one that were soon dashed by Oates’ casual abuse of the Black woman, who’s just a device to indicate some of what the white one is going through. Haven’t tried another since.

From her long-held throne at Princeton, Oates has long churned out novel after novel with characters and plots that mildly titillate middle-aged, upper middle class white readers.

Still coming down from this…

but but right now I’m saying my top five list of best movies FUCKING EVER just changed.

I laughed, I cried, I feel better about being an insignificant speck of shit.

Nothing matters! I love you all!
