I know I mentioned that “61st Street” was coming and I was planning on watching it. It’s started, so I’ve started, and it’s absolutely worth watching:
Looks like AMC and also WE TV.
Finally got around to watching The Last Black Man in San Francisco… what a great movie. Loved the Jello Biafra on a segway cameo…
Agreed. Cinematic poetry.
Some of the scenes… like where Jimmie and Mont are on the skateboard together or the scenes where where Mont is watching the guys who always hang out near his house….
I should mention that it’s tough to watch, because it’s so well done and so damned accurate, sadly.
Decided to share the article based on these lines:
If you were a sentient bag of cocaine who wanted to get involved in the “biz”, there was no better time than the 70s and 80s.
…there probably was a massive silver bowl full of high-grade cocaine on the set at all times, it was just discreetly moved out of the camera range seconds before filming began.
Left out Multiple Maniacs.
Finally got around to watching this last night. Based on a true story that got a lot of the details right… It’s heartbreaking, but worth watching.
RIP, Brian Deneke.
Obviously spoilers in this story, but knowing what happened won’t impact your enjoyment of the film (it didn’t for me).
It’s got Paul Verhoeven written all over it.
(Although having done Black Book, he might feel he’s already covered this territory.)
Guess I could’ve also put that in the Misogyny thread.
Freddie Oversteegen is in this documentary:
IMDB for some reason says it’s a 3-part documentary, but it’s really 6 parts on 3 DVDs.
Pretty good as I remember, saw it on TV a couple of years ago.
As far as I can tell only available in French and German. Probably on YouTube by now. Possibly available from time to time as a repeat via public broadcasters Arte or ARD.
I loved this one. Amazing animation, bizarrely compelling story.
Tres cool!
Be content with being a character actor, and always have steady employment.
Maybe, but that list makes it look like he’s merely an extra. I suppose in a film town that might be enough to get by on…
