Closeup images of broken blades near eyes. This is triggering for some of us, and I didn’t expect to see it in a feelgood thread about picking locks. No problem in a “workplace accident” thread.
OK, I see your point and have blurred them out.
Thanks. I’ve worked a lot with fairly dangerous equipment over the years, but angle grinders scare the crap out of me, for exactly the reason depicted in your photos. If I accidentally locked my bicycle, it would be worth the $75 to me to have someone else cut the thing open.
Not to mention the good old locksmith scam - crooks spam Google with fake locksmith listings that go to a call center, which then sends out an incompetent dork who charges $300 for the service call.
As for what I can’t open (yet) – the list is very, very long so I can’t even begin to list them all. I will note, however, that I’ve never even tried any of the supposed “unpickable” locks… the Abloy Protec, the EVVA MCS, etc.
I have no reason to think that I would have any more luck than others who have attempted them. Maybe someday I’ll try to climb those mountains, but they are not even on my radar right now. I also have not spent any time working on the newer electro-mechanical systems."
The abloy protec is a disc detainer lock–probably a lot more secure than most disc detainer locks-- and the evva mcs uses magnets.
If you believe youtube, neither is unpickable
