The myth of the ugly blobfish

How did I not recognize Kilroy?

Anyone who every has fished deep waters will know the air sack will come out of the fishes mouth from the decompression of water level when brought too surface suddenly. Not surprisingly, very deep fish would loss natural shape due too sudden pressure changes.

That’s still pretty damned ugly. Not codfish ugly, but ugly nonetheless.

Man I love deep sea aliens - I mean, creatures.

On behalf of the blobfish, thank you.

Now we need to get people to use a better name for him or her. Apparently they’re members of the sculpin group, and part of the problem with the dry-land photos is that they have a soft/decalcified skeleton. (But apparently not a cartilaginous skeleton as in sharks?)

Thank you Maggie, for providing clarity on this issue. I thought it might be a pressurization issue but wasn’t sure.
