So, true story. A number of years ago, around 2000 I was working in a small Chicago theatre and Gary Cole was in the cast. Eventually I find myself alone in the elevator with him and turn to him and say “hey, I want you to know that everyone down in the scene shop thought your work in Office Space was really wonderful, we really love your work.”
“Oh, thanks, that was a lot of fun to do, we had a great time,” he begins and we have about a minute of small talk. My floor arrives first, so I get out and give a little wave.
Looks me in the eye and says “Aaah, yeah.” he says, as only Lumberg can, doors close. End scene.
