I just don’t get it when it comes to people like Brown. I understand being a “conservative” as Brown likely understands it, even if I disagree with much of what that ultimately entails, but he’s a smart, thoughtful person who has seen a lot of the world and it didn’t occur to him to just shut the fuck up.
It’s not difficult. You just…don’t…make self-pitying Holocaust “jokes” and put them on the internet. It’s actually one of the easiest things in the world to do. I’ve done it for thousands of days straight without even trying all that hard, and I’m not very bright!
I’m still struggling with the idea that liberals will round up conservatives for the camps? Back to projection, I suppose. I have really enjoyed Good Eats, and found Brown to be entertaining, but damn, this is not OK.
If by camps, they might instead mean prison, then yes, absolutely: we should round them up, indict them and take them to the holding tank to await trial.
I’m pretty sure he was referencing Trump attempting to become a dictator, since he came out as Republican having voted Republican only to talk about how the GOP is failing the US and voting for Democrats in the election. Either way the joke started callous and went into horrifyingly jokes.
Well, you have to bear in mind these are people who will vehemently assert that Hitler and his cronies were radical left-wing socialists. After all, it’s in the name of the party.
Therefore fighting the Nazis = fighting socialism.
Oh golly look who just decided that hyperpartisanship is bad now that it just became apparent he probably won’t live long enough to see the Republicans control the White House again.
I don’t say they actually believe it. But they do make that claim - along with the whole rest of their weird claims. I really hope that none of them actually believe it but I worry sometimes that there are people out there who only ever follow ‘conservative’ media who do genuinely believe that shit.
I think if you only ever surround yourself with this crap it could easily end up being your reality.
Of course whether they believe it or not, it still serves their purposes. a) by claiming you believe it, you signal your allegiance to ‘conservatism’ and b) they think it annoys ‘liberals’.
It reminds me of the post-credit scene in Thor: Ragnarok in which Jeff Goldblum congratulates the revolutionaries who just cast him out of power and declares a tie.
Yeah, upon second reading of the article that’s how I understood it as well. Unfortunately the original tweets are deleted, so it’s hard to know the exact context. Anyway, as you say, it’s the levity about the Holocaust that is the problem here. And then there’s this other joke about “negroes” that’s mentioned in the article. It seems like he lives in an environment where such language is accepted. To such a degree that he isn’t aware how other people think about it. That’s what’s really shocking to me.
Do we know how much money he actually spent on Trump? I’ve seen him complain a number of times that he was disappointed by his inability to simply buy an election.
Whether the Koch brothers specifically bankrolled Trump himself or not is almost irrelevant because they certainly bankrolled the Republican establishment that put him in power and has enabled Trump throughout his entire disastrous administration.
