If it was legitimate cancer he could have shut it down.
Something, something Oathkeepers maybe?
What was her plan there? Use the national guard to stop the governor from returning and thus stay in power indefinitely?
Seriously, though, this is not the kind of thing that happens in a first world country
Lord, there are so many, many things happening here right now that this could be applied to. There is probably a conclusion to be drawn, but I am shying away from it because I choose not to think about it too hard.
In most aspects, internally the U.S. is less of a single country than it has been since the first Civil War. Idaho is effectively part of what Neal Stephenson called âAmeristanâ, effectively a developing/periphery country. Itâs a mostly rural, mostly white region with a per-capita median income thatâs below that of the U.S. as a whole. The majority of people who live there actively support policies that make the U.S. the worldâs first poor rich country.
That the Idaho politician who thought it was a good use of his time to travel almost 1000 miles from the state to grandstand about border issues was the âreasonableâ Republican in this story tells you how bad itâs gotten there.
They donât believe in democracy at all levels. Itâs all about insurrectionist and grabbing power. Authoritarians think that if they grab power, the system wonât be able to kick them out. It doesnât matter if the person in power is one of them - theyâre suckers if they lose.
Did I miss another one?
At this point Iâm operating on the assumption that the U.S. is in for a second one. The Know-Nothing 27% is only escalating. It will be more of a Syrian-style one fought in the Ameristan periphery, but itâll still be a civil war.
IMO, Covid and itâs after-effects are the MUCH bigger worry.
There are many more arm chair warriors than actual morons willing to get out in the streets and risk any skin.
We dont need to speak the worst possibilities into existence by preemptively stating them as foregone conclussions.
Arm chair warriors online, snowflakes IRL.
Ah; derp.
Iâm distracted todayâŚ
Youâre soaking in it, right now!
â Swinney, of Texas, came to Portland âdressed for battleâ in August 2020 because of his âhatred for the left, for antifa,â declared on social media a âcivil warâ and urged supporters to join him for âmore than a normal flag wave,â
Shouldnât have messed with Portland.
Is there any other kind, or do you have to prove that youâre a cereal wanker before they give you a card?
A disunion card.
