The pros and cons of pet foxes

Not directly, but I get your point. I specifically mentioned we should do it humanely. I’ll add: with lessons learned from dog breeding.

You can do it as humanely as you like, there is still no good reason to turn yet another species into pets. As in “a domesticated animal kept for pleasure rather than utility”.
There are shelters full of pets that are unwanted because the novelty wore out already.
If you want to do something that foxes profit from, make sure they have natural habitats to live in.

Even the working and sport dogs have problems from generations of inbreeding.

Border terriers seem to have the least worst problems (long life, relatively healthy compared to other dogs, smart, friendly, good around children) but they still can have serious congenital health problems. I worry about what would happen to them if they became more popular.
