It’s just Echidna. No-one I know in Australia called them “spiky anteater”.
“Spiny anteater” is a common enough term, but.
I live in Hepburn Springs, rural Victoria, where it’s not uncommon to see these guys ambling slowly across a busy road… nearby is a small town called Porcupine Ridge - talk about getting the name wrong!
Didn’t know that they live to around 40 years! Kangaroos live to only around 8 or so.

I’ve posted this before, but this charmer wanders through our garden every now and again. We’re in the NE of Melbourne near the Yarra.
I love their waddling gate. Cute all over except down under!
For what it’s worth, I’m an American and I’ve never heard anyone call them “spiky anteater” either. Spiny I’ve heard.
