I can kinda get it though. Imagine you moved to rural China right now. Lets be charitable and say that you come in able to speak the language rather than having to learn it on the fly like one of the missionaries may have. There’s no internet, no real mail system aside from the fact that maybe once every few years someone comes in to check in you. You’re going to be surrounded by people but loneliness is a definite possibility when you’re culturally isolated like that.
Of course even in rural china right now you’d be a lot more comfortable, what with the globalization of culture, the existence of the internet, of modern mail systems, etc etc etc
