How can somebody so smart say, “irregardless?”

In a world where “your” is spelt “ur” because 4 letters is just too long, how is “irregardless” still a contentious fake word among all the fake words we’ve come to accept?
Srsly.
If I should ever come across someone who calls himself a “Leitnerd”, the only thing that would delay me from strangling the tone-deaf little fucker to death with his laptop charger cable would be waterboarding him in a bucket of mate first.
