This looks interesting but in terms of crime shows I’m more excited about David Simon’s return to Baltimore.

To be fair, it is from the memoir written by a white dude who started as a cub reporter for Yomiuri Shinbun, and worked there for some 12 years.

Of course, this doesn’t mean it (the book or show) will be free of white savior tropes, but this doesn’t appear to be a whitewashing of Asian characters, a la too many shows and movies.

From what I understand, the criticism towards Jake Adlestein is that a good number of critics are sure a lot of his reporting is straight up fabricated
