This is wow.

Surprisingly, there’s no English wikipedia page for the artist or his house, but there’s one in French. From the looks of it, the place is huge.

Did he build everything himself? How much help did he get? My French isn’t great, but it doesn’t seem like the article goes into that.

Sometime in the late 70s or early 80s, the National Geographic Magazine did an article on this place with some great photos. A few years later I was reading a Moon Knight comic with art by Bill Sienkiewicz, who drew these very same gardens into the story, as a desperate criminal is hunted by Moon Knight from atop these walls and statues! A very atmospheric sequence. I’ve always wanted to visit there since. This bit of cover art has been retouched I think, it’s not as nice as the interior drawings.
