Indeed. I have one, I take the batteries out when I put it back in its box if I want to be able to use it the next time. When not it use, it empties the batteries in a month or so.
I also have a purely mechanical one, it is accurate enough and needs no batteries…
Just to add, unlike the mechanical, digital calipers can misread if moisture is on the slide bar. i.e. water, sweat, oil, sneezes.
