They really are quite wonderful, and unlike ivory netsuke, no cruelty is involved in making them.
Bamboo is truly amazing stuff. Watch balance springs have been made from it. I plan for a later project to frame a kayak out of it. Weight for weight as strong as steel but, owing to the big sections, far more rigid.

If I were going to make something that intricate I think I would select a subject that didn’t give people the urge to smash it with their shoe
