These standing airplane "seats" may be tomorrow's economy class

Thank you!

I’d imagine they are much like a motorcycle seat. Not bad if you use your legs, and you at least have that option to do so rather than being trapped sitting on your ass. But you’d better be in good shape if it goes on for more than a minute.

I suspect that the price point is a bit greater, but it is a truism that the cheapest way of getting from place to place is always uncomfortable. Most people who just want to get from place to place on their own dime simply don’t want to pay more than they have to. Or, you could say that if you can lower the price point a bit, you will find more customers.

How comfortable are those seats during violent, up-and-down turbulence?

Not much worse than this:

This is not the first time I’ve seen non-sense like this floated- it’d never get flight certified for pretty much every reason others posted up-thread.

If it where, however, and I found out that a flight I was booked on was using it? I’d spin 180 degrees and cancel my ticket (assuming that’s still possible) and rent a car.

Exactly this. short, tall, overweight, differently abled, disabled, injured, elderly, children, babies, etc. are all unaccounted for in this inhumane design.

…if only we could produce exactly uniform worker class humans. \s

I guess these guys would like it, though:

That’s getting dangerously close to a good idea.

I don’t want to know how this smells

No clue, never smelled it myself. I’ve made plenty of biodiesel from used cooking oil and when properly made, the biodiesel doesn’t smell when used in a diesel engine. I have heard stories of people smelling french fries and popcorn when burning bio made from used frying oil, but most of the odoriferous chems (aromatics and aldehydes) tend to get taken out in the process.
