I love the totally out of place keyboard intro on the KMD track. Had totally forgotten about that.
Bad movies and how they come about always fascinate me. I’ll add that book to my list. Thanks.
I know a lot of people hate the movie, but I actually like Wild Wild West, granted I first saw it in my early teens and have no experience with the TV show. It was the first time that I’d seen Steam Punk… anything, and I loved the mechanical gizmo’s, parlor tricks and disguises. I mean it’s silly, and now reading about the TV show, it’s an awful adaptation, but I could still probably watch it. It was also my first time seeing Kevin Kline in a film, and he gave a very enjoyable performance. Plus the ending, the two heroes riding into the sunset on the back of a giant mechanical spider was a nice twist on the classic cliche.
That said, looking at the original, it seems like the writers may have had as much knowledge about the show as I did when I first saw the movie.
I saw the WWW The Movie in theaters when it came out and didn’t like it, a year or so ago watched it again and enjoyed it a lot. I think it’s just a state of mind, if you go in thinking it’s trashy fun and partake of mind-altering substances it can be a hoot. If you expect a Fine Film Of Quality it will be as bad as you remember.
The German title for Blazing Saddles is “Der Wilde Wilde Westen”… does that count?
You make me even more grateful for the friends who rushed to watch these films, and then warned me not to waste my time. I repaid them with dinner and drinks (which I hope were strong enough to help them forget).
It could be worse. My wife talked her entire immediate family into going and watching Ghost Ship. She said it was regrettable. I’ve never seen it.

(I really, really miss Hip Hop Family Tree.)
If you subtract one “Wild”:
I love the panels too. One thing I noticed was in some episodes James slugs the lady with the knife in the forth panel, but in others he just pushes her aside. I’d always wondered if that was change was due to (understandable) censorship or just a random change-up in the credits.
But agree this was a favorite show of mine, I watched it when I got home from school in syndication growing up in the 70s.
I believe at some point they changed it to him kissing her so skillfully that she simply swoons and drops the knife instead of sticking it in his back as she’d originally planned.
They did. Apparently there were complaints about his un-chivalrous behaviour. “How dare he punch a lady!” the outraged letters cried.
