Things that make you happy

When I’m listening to music, I literally see it. That may sound like a load of crap, but that’s what I experience.

I see the giant eye of Suaron, shaking his head going “uh, uh. Not gonna happen”

It’s in search mode. Pitiful mortal, you ascribe disapproval to that which seeks revenge. In a happy way. A gleeful way.

And the winds of Barthes filled the sails of a thousand doctoral paper ships :sailboat:, on to the sandy shores of reader response they did slip :film_projector: :open_book:

If I could do that, I wonder how many more times I would be listening to this:

No simple answer. Joy>no joy is inarguable. But it makes me sad sometimes how passive our society is. Vast numbers of people prefer to spend their weekend watching other people run around on TV. Makers is one response to this, people not used to creating getting joy from actually building something.

My son’s Eagle Scout Project was teaching kids at an inner city youth center a series of lessons on outdoor skills and then taking them on a hike. Only one kid actually came on the hike, the rest could not be bothered or their parents could see no reason their kid should go tramp around in the woods. It was pretty sad. Life needs balance, and ‘doing’ is part of it.

Not a load of crap, sounds more like synthesizer. Anesthesia. That thing where you can hear colours and stuff.
Must be both irritating and cool.

Watching sports (I’m a huge sportsball fan) gives me a lot of happiness. My health prevents me from participating. My budget prevents me from having a workshop, most tools or the even the space to build stuff (because fuck cheap shitty rentals, short-term leases and security deposits that I can ill-afford. :frowning: )

But slobbing out in front of the Test with a cold drink and my feet up… Fucking awesome.

I hear you; beyond folks who can’t, for whatever reason, I prefer to wonder if the others don’t know, yet, rather than don’t like,. Great stuff you’re son’s getting out there and introducing kids to activities outside.

I gotta say, I find an afternoon pulling apart Ask the Dust more meaningful than putting together a kit. Except when I put something cool together, then it’s totally worth it.

Speaking for myself.
Be assured, apart from easy to post pictures or clips, there is also cycling, and other sports. Irl, and done by myself. Walking in the woods with kid. Working / building house and garden, etc.
And making and creating things.

I know what you mean, but I posted a lot over here, not only to show but to share.
And I think that goes for more people. Nice pictures btw

It’s apt that the song is titled “I am very glad, because I’m finally returning back home”.

On a similar note, Prisencolinensinainciusol with a WTHIM twist:

Geeky webcomics. SMBC’s latest (co-written by Scott Aaronson) is a perfect example:

Reminds me of this book:

Its sequel (Supersymmetry) is okay as well, but not as good as Superposition.

That’s generally my reaction whenever the subject of quantum physics comes up.

I basically just write it off now as “The f***ed up stuff that has to happen in order for energy to pretend that it’s actually matter.” Going beyond that, more often than not, just seems like mental self-flagellation.

So this showed up in my Twitter feed yesterday.

(There’s video–I wish I could embed it, but trust me, just go there and watch it)

OMG, that takes nerves of steel to get into a filled tub half-naked with a cat.

Old Icelandic tales. Here’s one that probably shares a common ancestor with Beowulf:

I love Conan’s comments at the end. Love that guy. Oh yeah she’s ok too.
