You would need a shit ton of them to feed a pet. On the other hand, I’ve found them in freshly ground cornmeal that wasn’t stored properly, so yeah, checks out.

Got to be careful what you feed them to, the birds in my garden love them, and so do the hedgehogs, but apparently they’re not good for ‘hogs, it stops them metabolising certainly essential minerals, potassium in particular, IIRC. Shame, ‘cos the prickly little critters absolutely love them.
If you raise the "King’ mealworms (Zophobas rather than Tenebrio), they won’t pupate if they’re together (coz the worms will eat anything that can’t get away), so you can have a ton in some peat moss, feed them kitchen scraps, and not have them turn into beetles until you want them to. My lizards love them, and the beetles are pretty fun too.
