It some economics class I took I read about this guy, Evsey Domar, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evsey_Domar, a Keynesian economist – and I was so excited I wrote a letter to James Ward saying, “Ha! I finally figured out where “domar” came from” (the “Domar” being the currency of Gamma World). I got a note back saying something to the effect of “I’m not that clever. It was just a word we made up from DO-llar and MAR-k.”

I can see that, but sometimes the most hardcore fans stick with their favorite edition, not wanting to change to a ruleset that they don’t like.
