That was fun–and a nice little trip down memory lane. I first read about the archer fish in second or third grade and was fascinated. What I read included a fun anecdote of a man smoking on his porch one evening. An archer fish put out his cigarette.
So don’t smoke, kids. A fish might spit at you.

The fish accomplishes this feat of timing through deliberate control of its highly-evolved mouthparts, in particular its lips, which act like an adjustable hose that can expand and contract while releasing the water.
