When you’re at the Met, they have the English (and other language) subtitles playing on the back of the seat in front of you. You can turn it off if it’s distracting and they are set up so you can only see the one directly in front of you.

That sounds like too much tech for the problem. Lyric has a simple screen above the top of the stage box. You can glance up at the words without moving your line of sight much, and you don’t have to look up at all if you don’t want.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the concept of Big Operas. But inevitablely everyone (cast, crew, audience, etc) takes it waaaay too seriously.

I can assure you, the crew do not take it seriously. Well, I do, sometimes, but I’m an exception.

And Puccini got it right: “Compared to Wagner, we’re all just mandolin players.”

No, it’s totally perfect tech. I wish all tech worked this way. The multi-language option is useful since it’s a destination opera house.
