Advocating for violence against children is not OK.

[edit] This comment was in direct response to a now memoryholed comment that unambiguously advocated for violence against kids. To everyone that flagged that BS out of existence, you did the right thing, and should feel pretty good about getting that crap removed. To anyone else who thinks it’s OK for adults in positions of authority to assault children, that’s a bad thing and you should feel bad.

Listen I agree that the paddling of children by schools is wrong. Especially for protesting about strongly held beliefs on a subject that directly affects them. I never would have allowed it myself. But we’re not talking about the same thing here.
Schools have been given wide latitude over the last few decades to suppress both free speech and freedom of expression.(under the guise of student safety and fear of “gangs”.)
That’s why my child can be sent home for wearing a Redsox baseball cap

The courts didn’t. The Fourteenth Amendment did:

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States

(ETA: Well, it was the courts that interpreted this sentence as meaning that the Bill of Rights is binding on the States, at least with respect to citizens, but it has hardly any other reasonable interpretation.)

I tried to find an email access to any of the school’s administrators but even their Facebook was unavailable, so i’ll rant here. -_ ‘Get ready for a tourist influx because the ACLU is about to visit. You’ve managed to reinforce the image of redneck hillbillies and inbred ignorance so that adds to the attractiveness of your quaint 18th century charm. These pending lawsuits could rival the Scopes Monkey trial for the spectacle alone. How can college educated teachers(well attendees at least) participate in this barbarism? I’m sure you stand within your states laws but consider the Thomas Jefferson paraphrase by MLK: “One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.” End of rant - I feel better. To the future graduates: Consider relocating to more civilized areas.’

To be fair I have to admit this is not just a problem in the backward areas of our country. There’s a tendency by administrators to be control freaks and this probably has more to do with defiance to their authority then the more far reaching social issues.
I could mention the problem of future employment for the staff but as long as they stay in the Bible Belt they won’t have any problem finding new jobs for being part of this Christian practice.
