I live in AK. Mr Gremlin heard it that morning (not sure why I didn’t wake up because normally I’m a light sleeper) and thought it was someone doing live round drills at the nearby army base or some large critter scratching/banging at our house. Nope. Took a few days for us to realize what he’d heard. Wild stuff.
There’s a pretty robust Tongan population in Alaska and the local NPR station has been playing some really heartbreaking interviews.
Comfortly in the lower two-digit megaton range.
I’m impressed that they did the sensible thing to run away from the coastline and any potential tsunami after hearing the shockwave.
And here I was wondering to myself, “That seemed far away, why is this dude running?”
You can tell I have no volcano/tsunami experience!
