Well, depending on how recent the russian histroy you’re looking for is, or how accurate, Andrei Rublev may be a good fit. Made by one of the greatest soviet directors, and horribly truncated by censors on its initial release. It’s an interesting lens into earlier Russian history as seen by residents of the soviet union. And a damn good film besides.
