Or lack thereof…

Not that Warren Ellis, I’m guessing.

The ‘other’ Ellis that plays with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and the Dirty Three.

I’ve checked with the boffins in the backroom, and the scientific consensus if that this track is fucking awesome.

Sounds like a missing track from Until the End of the World.

One of my favorite albums (esp. the Tinariwen Song Group Anmataff):

Mali has some great music. A few years ago I really got in the traditional kora players like Toumani Diabete and Ballake Sissoko. In more recent years I’ve been listening to a lot of Tinariwen (mostly the Amassakoul album) and Rokia Traore (example below).

Trying to find the documentary “They Will Have to Kill Us First”, described as “Musicians unite to organize a concert in Timbuktu, Mali, after Islamic extremists ban all forms of music in the country.”, that I can get from a library or stream. I, too, have been listening to a lot of music from Mali and other African countries. There’s just something indescribable about it

At the risk of being too much That Guy, Mali is separated from Morocco by Algeria or Mauritania, depending on which way round you go. Not to say Tinariwen is not great, but there are other - local - options.

If you want a flavour of Western Sahara you can try Julud, by Aziza Brahim? Or there’s a growing rap/trap/hip hop scene in Morocco, I think, which might be something to investigate.

I’m taking a HEAT course to polish up my already existing skill set, given that Morocco’s neighbors have been a little rambunctious of late.

Wat?
