Trick-or-treating isn't just for kids — it's for beavers too, apparently

Growing up we had a pond in our front yard that was the domain of beavers. We all lived in harmony (except that time they gnawed the salty wiring on Dad’s Scout) and we learned they looooooved apples. So we’d scatter some each week near the dam, and they became so hotly anticipated that the younger fearless little guys would walk right up and tug on your pant leg. Eventually you could just hand them over. It was pretty adorable.

What’s the deal with the stick in the other hand? Some sort of “carrot or the stick” test?

You don’t want to TP a beaver’s dam, they will drop a tree on your house.

[petulantly] But the beavers are supposed to be the ones wearing the costumes! I want to see cute fuzzy animals in cute fuzzy animal costumes!

Ah well, I’ll have to settle for dogs dressed as pandas…
