My first thought reading this was “potential motive” - a certain kind of right-winger would be both a registered Republican and very upset about them or their family getting profiled in a secret database. Especially an at least government-adjacent database like that.

Seems like they remain more concerned about social media. I stumbled across a story this morning about the consequences faced by people in various public positions who posted jokes or positive comments about the shooting:
The MAGA followers fond of saying, “F* your feelings” and other deplorable public statements seems to be making sure they’re the only ones able to do that without fear of repercussions.
