Trump wants to kill the FAA and hand air safety to the big four airlines

But, they’re going to form a non-profit! How can’t that mean good? /s

I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years, now the big pharma companies and the FDA have a revolving door with all sorts of drugs being “approved” only to be withdrawn when the the side effects outweigh the risk, And they still get the opportunity to have commercials to run ads so yo can tell the do what drug you need prescribed.
Those ads are often tucked between the ads for lawyers looking for people injured to sue the drug manufacturer. Johnson’s Baby Powder for god’s sake.
Reagan broke the FAA years ago and Trump wants to be the king of something, perhaps the inane, or add an s where appropo.Reagan believed the "it’s easier to do what you want and then apologize rather than ask permission through proper channels.

and here we go…was waiting for the “You aren’t a lawyer” counter argument. For fuck’s sake, I am not in favor of the FAA being privatized, but I do not think that if it did happen that all of a sudden the airlines will say “FUCK SAFETY CAUSE ITS EATIN UP OUR PROFITS”.

I’ll go edit my post to read “OHMERGHAD THE EVIL RIGHT WING FANATICS ARE TRYING TO SCREWZ US ALL”

better?

Supposedly TrumpAv will be a non profit as well. I just can’t help but wonder why this is even necessary? Our ATC has a great safety record.

Not anymore (but your point is still valid).

Oops! Thanks for the correction.

Why are you not in favor of it if you don’t think they will take shortcuts that could impact customer safety?
Also, you didn’t answer my question.
Also - take it easy. Jesus Christ.

Did BP go belly up after Deepwater Horizon? Exxon after their spill? Malaysian Airlines still around?

After a disaster they’re in trouble…until ***w***hen news cycle churns over. If I lose a few million in lost sales because people are afraid to buy their tickets immediately after a disaster, but I make a couple tens/hundreds of millions off of no longer being regulated and being able to ignore whatever I want, that’s a no-brainer.

In Trump’s America, FAA kills you.

Basically a vehicle for Goldman Sachs to lend money to, backed by its ability to extract monopoly rents from commercial aviation, private pilots, and passengers.

…I assume someone in the background somehow stands to gain a shit-tonne of dough should it go through. That’s all I got…

I believe the phrase “In Trump’s America” may be the next contender to replace “In Soviet Russia”.

Guaranteed the the airlines would have big data analysts working out the exact ratio of plane crashes that optimize profits while retaining just enough customers who are willing to risk it.

Essentially we already do.

I absolutely agree that cutting safety to increase profits would be detrimental to their industry. I’m saying it would most likely increase profits in the extremely short term. I think most people running large companies would choose to increase profits 50% this quarter if it meant a 50% chance of folding up the business next quarter.

You are spot on. My company did this a number of years back. They invested heavily in a print facility and pulled all print production in house (we send out a lot of print material, we are the second largest users of the USPS behind the federal government). They felt it would be cheaper and more efficient to do it ourselves. It was at first. Then as the print tech evolved and they realized how much they had to spend to keep up…it became a huge cost center instead.
