It’s what they do. Trying to claim the most with the least amount of effort. Trump even did it with the old U.S. Space Command (functionally contained in the existing U.S. Strategic Command) and simply gave the already existing function a name. The U.S. Space Force. Hey! Look what we created!

That was soooo Trump. Obama apparently asked the Pentagon if they wanted to have a separate branch for U.S. Strategic Command, and the Pentagon thought about it and said “no.” Trump came in took credit for something that already existed, ignored what the military actually wanted and pretended he did them a big favor. Meanwhile his supporters have absolutely no idea what “Space Force” even is, but they’re happy to give him credit.
