I hope the TSA shuts down airports. There’s no reason for these workers to work for free. I’d much rather close down security than have a mistake in the tower cost lives.
Sure, sure, but I mean… He’s got to sign the law, too.
Someone that courageous about her strong convictions must be a joy to have around at holiday events. She has a choice, which is more than many Americans affected by “the worse” have; she just chooses not to exercise it.
Burbank > LAX anyhow.
Unless they close it.
Worse still. one of her biggest “must over throw the corrupt establishment” causes is education: the common core. 3 of the 4 woman work in education. So…yeah…its a blast when we all get together and she jumps on her soap box.
If things go along this road much longer, I really hope they are “touched”.
As isolated as they might be from the common rabble, they still physically exist in this world, and eventually their obscene wealth will be less of an insulator and more of an accelerant.
My Grandmother is supposed to fly out Monday with her sister to visit their brother.
Who was just diagnosed with late stage cancer in his lungs, liver, lymph nodes, colon, bladder. They pretty much just stopped looking at that point. And he’s been walking around like that.
He’s been told he had a little as a few weeks left. And my Grandmother and Aunt are in their late 70’s. So they’ll need the old people standard extra service with wheel chairs and early boarding to get on the plane at all, and can’t really deal with delays on plane for medical reasons. My father is thinking about driving the 12 hours to them so he can drive them to the 8 hours to Florida.
Unfortunately I think that’s the wise move, although it will be wearing on everyone. I’m so sorry they have to deal with this BS on top of an already horrible situation.
Now that you bring it up, I also have to wonder about how people who have to fly to various clinics and specialists are affected by this. Sooner or later, these shutdowns end up with people dying.
I’m flying to Vegas at the end of March, really hoping all of this will be sorted by then ]: i presume it will be but you never know
Oh on top of that my Aunt’s state ID had expired, and thanks to North Carolina’s voter supression fuckery they had to drive 2 hours and spend an entire day trying to get it replaced. In the end they were told she didn’t have enough proof of ID and needed to come back with a birth certificate and 3 bills with her address. So they did it again. At which point she was told she didn’t need any of that and the expired ID was all she needed to renew.
So they’re very pleased with Republicans right now.
Not really.
If congress had even half a backbone at all they would just override any veto. Just 4 weeks ago, it passed the Senate 100-0. Now, 4 short weeks later, 44 Republicans flipped their vote to no.
What changed in those 4 weeks?
I’m all for people changing positions as new information becomes available that impacts those decisions. It’s not “Flip Flopping” when there’s a change of information. But, I can’t think of any new information in the last 4 weeks…
Bonus, he’s never vetoed any bill yet. I’m not sure he even knows how. More likely, he’ll sign whatever Congress sends him and proclaim it a great victory, no matter what is in it.
Did the deadline for voter registration lapse in the meantime?
Anecdotal but I was able to get through security in the Atlanta airport in less than 10 minutes a couple of days ago. So, it’s possible you might not have a bad experience.
My periodic reminder of GOP entaglement:
And as of this post, Trump caved and allowed a three-week reopening of the government. I wonder which of his cronies needed to fly through LGA this morning?
(ETA: It has to have been someone with a low profile. The private-jet types go through TEB.)
As many have already posted:
If they let him shut it down again in 3 weeks, some heads need to roll…
We would if ATC operators did the right thing and shut the airspace down completely. They have people working complex sectors while worrying about household finances. Its just not safe to operate this way.
Don’t you remember Grover Norquist saying, “I don’t want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub.”
