Tumblr has gone the way of the MySpace.
If you aren’t banning men without shirts, banning women without shirts is misogynistic and a sexist double standard.
Jin-Yang obviously needs to work on his “Flapjack/Not Flapjack” algorithm.
What’s left out of this story is that any technology platform acquired by Oath/Verizon has to be run through the parent company’s Department of Crapification.
Tumblr has bravely deactivated the hashtag #tumblrisdead
Liked just for the gif. (What a shame Jeremy Brett died before they could do the full canon.)
He will always be my Sherlock Holmes.
What only Tumblr seems to understand is, we like naughty images, and if they aren’t banned, they aren’t naughty. This is why lady nipples are bad, but man nipples are… not bad, but boring. Where’s the fun of finding, at last, an anatomical illustration with no sexual overtones? Where is the delicious shame?
“Just to be clear,” a Tumblr spokesperson said, “you can look at nipples so long as you don’t enjoy it. Our state of the art artificial intelligence reviews every image and calculates a probability that the nipples displayed might titillate, arouse or even just be considered aesthetically pleasing by someone, somewhere. If NippleBot thinks that a nipple has the potential to bring pleasure to anyone, however slight or transitory, then it’s out of there. On the other hand, if the score indicates that the nipple in question is more likely to depress, intimidate or worry the viewer, then it can stay.”
“For example,” the spokesperson continued, “it’s permissible to show the nipples of a woman being screened for breast cancer because breast cancer is so horrible that the mere thought of it is a giant boner-killer. Pictures of Femen activists are a bit of a borderline case, of course, because a lot of people find the idea of shirtless ladies battling oppression pretty damn sexy, and there’s a risk that even their serious, newsworthy nipples might inadvertently trigger feelings of pleasure and enjoyment. We get around that by reasoning that their cause is so irredeemably fucked, that the misogyny they are protesting against is so inextricably embedded in all current societies, that the sight of their nipples is likely to make sensitive viewers feel profoundly depressed, if not actually suicidal. Ultimately, our goal is to show only nipples that have the potential to cause anxiety or despair, as part of a larger plan to make the whole platform as unpleasant to use as possible.”
The spokesperson declined to elaborate on Tumblr’s future plans, but did say that once the platform had been purged of anything that might possibly lead to sexual arousal, Tumblr would be taking “a long hard look” at other areas of the service to identify any more aspects that might need to be eliminated. “We’ve got a vibrant, thriving user community here,” he said. “We aim to change all that.”
If I could find the place to put the match, I would burn it all down.
“We’re going to allow context-dependent exceptions to our rule, which will be enforced by a filter.” - Total Idiots
For a humorous take.
Those wacky bots. Always recurrsing all over themselves!
That is some sexy sexy female presenting nipple porn you paint there my friend!
(either that, or tumblr’s filter is totally insane)
