Twitter from beginning to end

Twitter is a freight train loaded with nothing but burning dumpsters, barreling down a rickety track towards a cliff.

Oh, and it will never turn a profit.

I’ll believe it when I see it. If there’s one thing Twitter is consistently good at, it’s saying that they need to do better.

You’re right, you can’t shut up the president (especially not this one…). But allowing him to spew garbage and bile on their platform without consequence gives a signal to a lot of people that such behavior is acceptable. That tacit approval is amplified tremendously by the rules-laywerly way they respond to reports of abusive or threatening tweets. They have a really bad habit of getting puritanical whenever someone does a swear, but are often completely fine with death threats, dog-pile sea-lioning, and other less overt actual abuse that often precipitates someone telling another user to fuck off. Having a swastika avatar and a pinned tweet saying Hitler was right is fine, and sending pictures of ovens to Jewish celebrities is just freedom of speech, but responding by telling those people to go to hell could get your account restricted for 24 hours.

Even their stated reason for suspending Rose McGowan - that she posted someone’s private phone number - only really applies when they feel like applying it. The Twitter support tweet announcing their reasoning is filled with replies containing screenshots and links to tweets (often from police department PR accounts) with similar personally identifying material in them.
