I worked in two German hospitals in the ‘90s. It was great to have so many service-year kids around to help with patient transport, as the hospital itself was massive. It also helped those who were interested in healthcare careers figure out if they could handle smelling/seeing bodily fluids, as that’s a tough hurdle to get over no matter how strong one is academically.
