Rescued dog with spinal injury was pictured in mural on a viaduct in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The intention of the artist was raising awareness, encouraging pet adoption and donation of canine wheelchairs.
Toquinho is the poster boy for a wheelchair donation campaign for dogs. The viaduct was once a bad place, but it was “adopted” by a chain of veterinary hospitals, that sought to revitalized the site.
The poor little dog was abandoned at a veterinary clinic. He arrived as a puppy, with his spine broken in half. His guardian doesn’t know how he was injured.
The clinic staff raised money to perform surgery and stabilize Toquinho’s spine. He has a stabilization board, and uses a wheelchair.
Screamy or otherwise, all the orphans need to be used to their carers. Once they’re old enough, they go into creche, where they (literally) hang around with other rescued bats. Then the carers back off from giving affection. They need to learn to be bats, and by that age, they’re ready to ignore their carers and be batties.
ETA: The bats who will remain in care for the rest of their lives are still shown plenty of affection, and solicit and appreciate it.
Me years ago, at 10PM and having fallen asleep while listening to my girlfriend on the phone, and she well aware that I needed to get up at 4AM the next day to make my long commute to work. And I was not bothered in the least.
