God, it’s like you can’t have a discussion about a woman exercising political power and getting rape threats as a result without some knob coming along and derailing it! How very odd! How utterly unpredictable! How totally un-troll-like! It’s almost as if some men (#notallmen) don’t want to discuss the systemic ways that women are silenced unless they can control the discussion or it effects them personally. But surely, that can’t possibly be the case! I mean, that would mean that happy mutants were reflexively defending patriarchy out of some half-conscious sense that their privilege depended on it.
I don’t know what the best way is of dealing with derailling trolls. Should we ignore them? Hit them back hard? Or should we try to behave within social norms and then be just like screaming sounded rabbits who totally deserve every bad thing that happens to them and thus so do we. My, what a conundrum.
(I tend to favour sarcasm in the hope of creating a social norm where dumbass derailers can’t pretend that their ‘contributions’ are useful, interesting or worthwhile. Derailling is dishonest, pompous and boring.)
That would require that the derailers be able to GET your sarcasm, in the first place (not a guaranteed thing, by any stretch). Also, it would require them to care that you think they are useful, interesting, or worthwhile, which is also not much of a guarantee.
I don’t understand why anyone would become enraged by this protest. Certainly not to the point of making threats. The protest seems unlikely to have any effect on the gun legislation. Has anyone looked at the background of whoever is making the threats?
I’m not giving him the clicks, but according to FB he’s a self described “anarchist, atheist, asshole” - an also a racist and sexist and likes to talk about the “left” being stupid, so also right wing?
