US Customs and Border Patrol wants to ask for your "online presence" at the border

Asked and answered, @anon61221983. I don’t expect either of us will get any movement from the other on this in this thread.

I’m getting exasperated. @anon61221983 is actually speaking for many of BBS self-identified women. The problem we have with the original post is that this person criticized Cory (who posted copy from another source) by using a female title as a slight, i.e., “What if I referred to you as a female?” As if this is some kind of insult?

The title this person had fit over, and has been screaming in CAPS at the female contingent of BBS, is “Patrol” vs. “Protection.” I thought @Carl_Pietranton’s reaction to Cory’s piece was initially over the top and his and other posters subsequent doubling down continues to be insulting to many of us.

Not really. You just asserted that YOU didn’t find it sexist, as if it’s obvious to you that it’s not. I want you to tell me WHY you don’t find it sexist.

But if you think you have explained it to me, and don’t find me worth engaging on this topic, then I guess we’ll have to leave it there.

You are welcome to “FTFY”, but please remove the attribution as that is no longer my actual quote.

You really didn’t answer, but if I had to read between the lines on your post it seems you believe sexism is only sexism if there is intent. If that is what you are implying, it completely ignores patterns of sexism that are culturally ingrained.

The post didn’t do that, it merely showed that using the wrong title is a blatant error that should be corrected. He didn’t use womanhood as a “slight”. Context matters.

Which would have been nice to hear from them… but clearly, they don’t find it worth their time to explain their thinking to me. Too bad, as that could have been a good, fruitful discussion.

There you go.

Not good enough. If you are going to tell people they are not allowed to call something out as offensive, you’d best be able to explain the cognitive dissonance between “that isn’t offensive/offensiveness is subjective.”

ETA: I find “an thread” offensive.

You know what? If I wanted to make something not intended to be sexist into a sexist thing, I could easily do it here, with ‘dogpile’. It’s clearly offensive and sexist to call a group of women ‘dogs’ so therefore by accusing a group of people, who happen to be female, happen to be bbs members and happen to question a particular commenter’s mistitling/misgendering of Cory, of ‘dogpiling’ is offensive and sexist. The only way it could have been more overtly sexist would be by calling it ‘bitchpiling’.

And that’s without mentioning the odious accusation of group think and dismissal of questioning as being pretty much a ‘sheeple’-type thing.

I think it’s time everyone got outside, had some fresh air, and stopped beating a dead horse. Have a great Sunday, everyone!
