My partner used to work as a teacher for severely disabled kids and one of her (and my!) fave students gave the salute in this manner. It’s been years but we still do this to each other when we’re pretend mad, however it’s been awhile, so thanks for the unintended reference!

I grew up in Vermont, and this is the most “Vermont” thing I’ve seen in decades. It makes me a bit homesick, even. Keep it weird, folks!

If they give him any problems with the sign, start a church and claim that’s the holy symbol.
The thing about most “definitions” of religion is that they are usually very bad at saying that something is not a religion, and you can play “But the Buddhists!” cards against the remaining objections.
