When being a thin skinned cop goes wrong…

The $175K judgement should come out of the state trooper’s and police union’s pockets.

i guess municipalities forget that when you give a thin skinned-idiot a badge and a gun, they are still a thin-skinned idiot. but now with the ability to do a lot more damage!

I’ve stumbled across multiple videos on Youtube of cops arresting people for flipping them off. And if those are just the incidents I’ve stumbled across, that got uploaded to Youtube, that were by chance clearly caught on camera, I have to wonder how common this must be.

It seems like cops know damn well that what they’re doing isn’t legal, but they don’t care - there are no consequences for them, the fines are no skin off their nose, and they get to punish the “offenders” who flipped them off with some time in jail, a towed car and the disruption that causes to their lives, which is their whole goal. They have power and they abuse it in various ways to punish the people who piss them off. You don’t train that out of people - you don’t hire those sorts in the first place.

Not for the cop, though - he got what he wanted (fucking up that dude’s day), and I suspect, at worst, he got some paid time off to get some “training” that tells him not to do it again. (Which will be the consequence the next time he does it, too.)

That would be an improvement, but still a slap on the wrist for what amounts to kidnapping.

There needs to be jail time for an official violating someone’s civil rights, or the Bill of Rights is just so much toilet paper.

Absolutely, they need some skin in the game. Otherwise, it’s just a cost of doing (shitty) business.

When “respeck mah authoritai” meets actual 1st amendment.

Alas, the tax payers are on the hook for the bill though.

Hopefully some of these same municipalities will discover that moral bankruptcy can lead to the physical variety.

Not every thin-skinned power tripper is a cop, but it seems an awful lot of cops are thin-skinned power trippers who either don’t know or don’t care what the law says.

Definitely time to defund police fuckups: if this came out of the officer’s pocket, there’d be a lot less bullshit if this nature.
