Because of the way the yard was organized and laid out and the pattern of burn it does look like the gates of hell, but from an isometric RPG, like Diablo 1 or something. I’m gonna bookmark this for a reference.

Wooden palettes are usually coated with pine tar to keep them from warping when they get wet (not always). Burning these palettes is pretty toxic, so using them for campfires isn’t ideal.
