My wife asked if we could simply refinance, and I reminded her that it could be sold right back to one of the many toxic institutions, even if we started out with one we were ethically okay with. Yet another reminder that competitive free markets steered by consumer demand are just a fairy tale that rich people tell themselves so they can sleep at night.
