I saw something the other day that suggested that Macron would beat either Fillon or Le Pen if he made it to the run-off (he’s just behind Fillon right now I think). Hamon has no chance. Might finish 5th.
Here we go:

but the orange speedboat driver cannot manage (I think this is his preferred view) without all the administrative overhead aka swamp. countries are complicated, not totally unlike huge corporations with lots of administrative functions
Supposedly that one got kicked in the pants due to being outed. However the paranoid bits of me want to dismiss that soon to be public and loud proclsimation of lgbt affirmation to be a case of ‘see? YOU HAVE SPOKEN AND WE LISTEN’ loudly trumprting that to the masses amid the new justice apointee and other issues so we aren’t looking at the slight of hand going on.
Trump does not have to be brilliant. He just has to do his part of being the loud thing everyone pays attention to.
I am hating current events because it feeds into extreme and unhealthy paranoia and bolsters a probably already unhealthy fortress mentality on my part that slaps everyone down as a threat rather than someone that wishes to help.
That is a pretty simple explanation…
(Not sure I believe this interpretation. But it’s an interesting thought.)
Not if you are the type of person who tends to reduce things to, say, pure monetary economic principles. Occam’s Razor is bullshit, and I stand by this statement. Not because of what Occam’s Razor actually means on a purely analytic basic (truly when describing like to like), but how it is used 99% of the time when it comes up in a discussion/argument.
Be worried that one of the primary mainstream media memes I picked up on today was “gay furry boy rape” – and this was literally a story I saw today. I wasn’t even looking for it, this may have been NYTimes. Coincidence? You know, IANAF (heh!) but even I’m willing to look at your post in light of all the weird shit going on these days and think… you know, maybe it’s not a coincidence that furries are coming up as a “bad thing” in the MSM a week and a half in to the Trump administration. I’m not saying it’s purely by conspiracy, rather… Odd co-occurrence? You tell me…
FYI this is the article I saw today: https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2017/01/30/us/ap-us-child-abuse-animal-costume.html?_r=0
Was there ever a question that Douglas Adams didn’t have it all figured out? Remember, he popularized the notion of “simulated reality” waaaaaay before that was a popular notion. In the form, of course, that Earth was a “simulation” being run by the mice…
I think direct democracy could only work if there were many competing direct democracies and if one could move easily and cheaply between them until you find one that you like. The problem is that the biggest and most powerful of them will eat the rest.
She was right on Tim Hunt.
The medium post omits the most relevant part of the first quotation. Here’s some more of it (italics mine):
The president’s job - and if someone sufficiently vain and stupid is picked he won’t realise this - is not to wield power, but to draw attention away from it. Zaphod Beeblebrox, the only man in history to have made presidential telecasts from the bath, from Eccentrica Gallumbits bedroom, from the maximum-security wing of the Betelgeuse State Prison, or from where ever else he happened to be at the time, was supremely good at this job (source).
I’m expecting–not looking forward to it, mind, just expecting–a state of the union address delivered from a solid gold jacuzzi at some point.
while he’s wearing his New Clothes?
Pray for bubble bath…
I cannot let go of the imagination. Shit.
… but … but that can’t happen in the USA. It’s the Land of the Free, isn’t it? Those germans and italians, you know how they are … They love marching and orders and stuff - no wonder fascism took hold. But Americans are different, special you know. Such thing can’t happen there, right?
You don’t have to be a general to start another World War - one Lance corporal is enough.
I saw that one as well and part of me thought the same thing. I asked around and started searching to see if they were actually part of the fandom but I’m not in the PA area and didn’t really come up with anything. There is that gut reaction when somebody in a community you’re in does something that vile that you just want to believe they are not part of your community. Last year I had to emotionally deal with the murders of people fans I knew by other people I vaguely knew the reality is murders happen all the time and some day it might strike in your hometown to people you know.
The reality is all fandoms are going to have a crimes like these and the media loves mixing that in with the coverage. We are all people and crime and horrible shit will tends to cross all boundaries but the media like to mix that up and contribute to selection bias.
Did you know all most Star Trek fans are pedophiles? If you look at the statistics from the L.A times and squint then they are:
I gotta expect stories like the one you posted will be fuel for 4chan and alt-right message boards as they arm up for a new horrible meme culture war that I really don’t have the strength to fight. I guess I probably should just take the paranoid approach for the next 4 years.
