Chess master Wilhelm Steinitz was having a heated political argument.
His opponent said, “Do you think you understand politics because you can play chess?”

…or could be just a pigeon feather storker

Bob Ferguson was my King County councilman, and I thought he was one of the most progressive, brilliant politicians I have been lucky enough to have representing me. So I’m not surprised and more than a bit proud of our hometown hero for coming up with a truly effective strategy for countering Trump’s nasty xenophobic blunt force policies.

I recall an article a couple of years ago where Trump stated that he played chess with Barron. Of course, DT’s the KIng of BS.
Besides, Barron would probably win because he’s not an idiot like his father.

For the last time: Trump is not playing three dimensional chess for chrissakes. He’s shat on the board and is smearing it about. Hella big cheering section for it all, sure. And meanwhile, sane people are so shocked and appalled that they simply just can’t even! So he just keeps shitting and smearing. Winning!

Trump has a game?

And then there’s the (possibly apocryphal) Nimzovitch Defense: stand on the table and pee on the board. Chess players can be a bit weird. That said, if you do not know how to respond to the King’s Gambit, you will get creamed. Bobby Fisher knew this full well.

You’ve never played tournament chess, have you.

Back when I was doing a lot of LARPing boffer-sword stuff, we used to play full contact chess.

We had a whole table worked out- Pawns had a short sword, knights a long sword and shield, queens two longswords- and any time you would attempt to capture a piece, you’d have to fight it out to see whether you actually captured it, or lost your own.

classic tactics from Rules for Radicals

  • “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.”
  • “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.”
  • “The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.”

The game being played is actually politics; the WA GA is just generally good at strategy.
