Wow not only is the trash can the wrong type for the lift, the guy operating it opened the gripper before the return.

That happened to our neighbor. The trash company refused to acknowledge what happened until they sent video from their security camera.

We still hide their trash bin from time to time.

here in nyc we don’t have that newfangled can lifter. we have 2 burly and generally surly sanitation workers heaving the entire can into the hopper, then shaking it out and putting the can back in the general vicinity of where they found it, sometimes. if your can goes into the hopper and doesn’t come back out, then it is intentional. you’ve pissed off them off and they want you to know it.

In our neighborhood, the lifter is at the front, in full view of the truck operator so this should never happen. The contents get dumped into a big rectangular bin in front of the truck’s bumper and when that’s nearly full, gets raised over the cab to dump into the back.
