Back in the dugout: “you were robbed, man.”
To me it looks like the extra leg kick was to keep him suspended in air long enough to grab the ball.
The extra kick provided opposite push to raising his arm fast enough to nab the ball.
Pretty sure he can actually leap tall buildings in a single bound but is doing just enough to keep his powers hidden from most of the population, similar to Dash in The Incredibles when he came second in a race.
That kid is something else. Been really fun to watch him this year.
“Let the Kids Play” indeed. in a huge crop of young talent in mlb, this guy leads the pack.
Well, he does so far lead MLB in errors this year.
a lot of fun players to watch this year…I feel like we aren’t talking about Shohei Ohtani enough.
I recommend watching that slow-mo at youtube’s 0.25 speed. Definitely an amazing play, and it’s clear his double-jump actually does impart a bit of extra momentem to his gloved hand!
After watching the Sandlot movie a few weeks ago, I looked up a couple Babe Ruth videos.
The difference in the level of athleticism is very pronounced. Babe has a bit of a gut, and just trots around the bases. Modern athletes are conditioned to such a degree, to the point where the term superhuman is a fitting descriptor.
LOL well, growing pains.
Superhuman? As someone who knows nothing about baseball but watches cricket that didn’t look especially spectacular. And he was wearing a glove!
You are right.
This is a great article from yesterday -
Cricket, yes. Just thinking the same thing. Particularly for the close in fielders at slips, etc. That ball is going like a rocket. Amazing reflexes.
I love, too, the fact that this fellow’s Dad is the one-and-only player ever to hit two Grand Slams in one inning.
Pretty much standard for shortstops, which handle more chances, especially ones with great range.
I wish I understood cricket better. Makes my hands hurt every time I watch those guys catch bare-handed.
Although there was this:
Babe was awesome when younger–would have made the HOF as a pitcher even if he never hit a homer.
Yeah, originally I googled slip catches specifically to show as an example but there weren’t any good videos that would have shown something comparable.
