Their point isn’t necessarily cause/effect. The protestors are saying no precious thing matters more than addressing urgent environmental matters. So they pick an outrageous target to get press and shock people into changing their beliefs.
Our local example is protestors closing down the Ironworkers Bridge linking the North Shore to Vancouver proper. This brings a big chunk of Vancouver to a standstill. It inconveniences everyone around it. I have personally been delayed in a hospital transfer during another protest. At that time I began to understand their point. No single person or treasure matters in comparison with the urgency facing us environmentally.
